Involuntary Retrieval Memory Processes

  • Measured in humans

Intrusive memories, counted in diaries after a distressing film (the trauma film paradigm), have been pooled in meta-analysis: across 134 articles, 606 effect sizes and 12,074 non-clinical participants, interventions reduced intrusion frequency by a small amount (g = 0.16, 95% CI 0.09 to 0.23)
